MASIUS, Michael Benjamin, Sr. Michael Benjamin Masius, Sr. of West Hartford passed away on Wednesday (February 4, 2009). He was a loving father to his two children: Kimberly M. Masius and Michael B. Masius, Jr., and devoted brother to Judy Masius Behrend. He was born in New York City in 1941. He was very active in the volunteer community especially with the Connecticut Chapter of the Leukemia Lymphoma Society where he served as a Trustee, received the Lucy Duffy Award, the chapter's Volunteer of the Year, and the Michael Garil Courage Award for his determination to regain his quality of life inspite of having AmyloidosisAL. He was diagnosed with Amyloidosis in early 2007 and reached out to Muriel for advice and support. It was his heart that suffered the most from the Amyloid Fibril deposits. Michael was treated with SCT and Chemotherapy and when he regained his energies he began to attend Muriel's Support Group at Mount Sinai in NYC. The support group became very important to him and their fund raising event last May in NYC.

I, his sister, am encouraging donations to this organization so that researchers can continue their discoveries so that soon they will find a way so that the disease is controlled and the patient can have a quality of life.
