After a long and dignified battle with Amyloidosis and Bone Marrow Cancer, Carol Jean Smith (née McAndrew) passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2012 in her 75th year. Carol worked as a Chronic Care Nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in Parry Sound for most of her working career. She received her nursing diploma from the School of Nursing at the Vancouver General Hospital and then worked as an airline stewardess for a major Canadian airline, which brought her to Ontario. She resumed her nursing career after her marriage, when her two children were 12 and 8 years old. After retiring at 58, she travelled the world with childhood friend, Jan. She visited Australia, China, Scotland, Africa and visited Antarctica via a Russian research vessel. Carol had a great thirst for knowledge and intellectual pursuits. She was a stained glass artist, birder, computer whiz. She was an exceptional granny - hosting "camp granny" for a week every summer for her grandchildren! Although her interests were many, her great passion was for Scottish country dancing which she was able to partake in for many years with her Parry Sound dancing friends. Her strength and her sense of adventure were an inspiration. Her strong love of and devotion to her family were so great that even in death she has protected us. Although her spirit is still with us, her death leaves a gaping hole in the lives of daughter, Jennifer (John) Tindale; son, James (Cindy) Smith; stepson Jon (Gabrielle) Cobb and grandchildren Kaitlin, Scott, Raven, Rain, Gemma and Duncan; brother Murray (Ann) and many nieces, nephews and countless friends
