THOMAS MICHAEL ASHE Miami Beach resident for the past 17 years, died October 15 from heart complications following a three-month battle with multiple myeloma and amyloidosis. He was 66. A former psychologist, political activist and Digital Equipment Corporation executive, Tom was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, the son of the late John Leslie Ashe and Dorothy Allen Moriarty, and grew up in Waltham, Mass., and Boston. He received a B.A. in psychology from Boston University in 1968, an M.A. in psychology from Temple University (Philadelphia) in 1970, and an M.B.A from Clark University (Worcester, Mass.) in 1984. Widely traveled and always intensely interested in education and learning, Tom enjoyed exploring all corners of the world throughout his life, especially after his relatively early retirement from Digital. He was fluent in six languages - English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian and German - and had made significant strides toward mastering Japanese. Tom is survived by his husband, Decio Sales-Filho; brothers John Ashe, Gerald Moriarty, and Liam Moriarty, and sisters Diane Moriarty and Leslie Angelo and their spouses; five nieces, six nephews, and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
