Singles, Robert Lewis 7/4/1952 - 8/17/2015 Sebring, FL Robert Lewis Singles, 63, of Sebring and West Palm Beach, answered his last alarm on August 17, 2015 after a short but courageous battle with a cancer-like disease called amyloidosis. Prior to living in Sebring, Robert had previously resided in Lantana, Florida and Wisner, Nebraska. Robert was born July 4th, 1952 in Flint, Michigan to Elwood and Margaret Singles. Robert entered emergency services in 1973 as an EMT and after moving to West Palm Beach he was hired by Southwest Fire District No. 6 where he served as a firefighter for the citizens of Palm Beach County from 1979 until 1991. Robert was an advocate of organized labor and a founding member of IAFF Local 2807. After moving to Wisner, Nebraska in 1991, Robert was employed as the plant operator of the Wisner Elementary School and a member of both the fire and rescue squads. Robert also served as Wisner's Civil Defense Director. Robert and family returned to Sebring, Florida in 1997 to care for his now widowed father. Robert was hired as one of the four original paid firefighters for Highlands County and he served the citizens of the districts of: Sun N Lake of Lake Placid, Highlands Lakes, and Desoto City until his retirement in 2013. In addition to Robert's life as a dedicated public servant, he volunteered for the American Red Cross and was an avid audiophile. He enjoyed storm chasing and traveling to his cabin in Michigan, and could always be found with a fire radio in his hand. Robert was preceded in death by his parents Elwood and Margaret, and his wife Julianne. Robert is survived by his children: Daniel Hull, Winter Garden, FL and Robinn Lee Singles, Sebring, FL; grandchildren Dylan, Emma, and Ava of Winter Garden, FL; sister Barbara Laviolette of Cheboygan, MI, and his girlfriend Debra Owens of Royal Palm Beach, FL.
