Richard Gary Hubbard, Sr., 75, passed away Nov. 5, 2014 at Frye Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health. Richard was born August 16, 1939 in Danville, Va. to the late Percy Fuller and Alma Hill Hubbard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step brother, Billy Hill. He was a member of Hildebran United Methodist Church, formerly worked for General Electric and retired from Glaxo Smith Cline of Greenville, NC. He was a graduate of N. C. State with a degree in mechanical engineering and a member of ROTC. He enjoyed hiking, camping and was a model railroading fanatic. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Linda Stamey Hubbard; sons, R. Gary Hubbard, Jr. and wife Susan of Cleveland, TN and Mark Hubbard and wife, Joanna of Walnut Shade MO; daughter, Sandra Surface and husband, Frank of Catharpin, VA: brother, the Rev. Norman Hubbard of Kernersville, NC; grandchildren, Eric Hubbard of Cleveland, TN, Daniel Hubbard of New York, NY, Margaret Dyer and husband, Matthew Dyer of Flagstaff, AZ, Sarah, Patrick and Fiona Hubbard of Walnut Shade, MO, Zachary Surface and wife, Jeness, Katie and Hunter Surface of Catharpin, VA; and many other loving family members and friends.
