JAMES GREGORY BARNES

On Wednesday, April 20, 2016, James Gregory Barnes passed away peacefully surrounded by his children and loved ones. Jim was 76 years old. He proudly joined the Marines in 1956 and served until 1962. After leaving the Marines, he received his Master's and Doctorate in public administration in 1982 from The George Washington University and served in the Senior Executive Service of the United States Government. After his time in the government, he served as a hospital administrator and eventually served as president of his own consulting firm. Jim will be remembered for his distinguished and quiet-spoken manner. Jim ran his first marathon in 1981, and was inspired to run six more. Apart from running, he was an avid cyclist and handball player. He married Jugde Iraline Barnes in 1976, and was they were married for nearly 30 years until she passed away in 2005. He is survived by his beloved children, his eldest daughter Jodye Beard-Brown, (from a previous relationship) husband Darin, and their two children Darin (18) and Emma Rose (14) of Houston; his daughter Monica Barnes and husband Ian of Brooklyn; and his son Jason Barnes, and daughter Taylor (11) of Beaufort. He is also survived by his sister Ernelle Ross of Hyattsville, Maryland, sister Lolita Teitelbaum of Murrieta, California, and brother Lawrence Berry of Upper Marlboro, Maryland. He is loved by a number of nieces, nephews, and friends from around the country.
