IOANNIS STEFANOPOULOS

Surrounded by his wife of 44 years and their two children Helene and Yannis, Ioannis died at home on December 8, 2012 at the age of 69, after a long battle against a rare disease called amyloidosis. He was born in 1943 in Northern Greece. In December 1968, after he finished hotel management school in Germany and France, he, his wife Lydie and their small daughter came from Paris to the United States. Ioannis was determined to pursue happiness and lead a rich life. Indeed he did. After successively working at the Mayflower Hotel, the Georgetown Inn and the Marriott Corporation, he realized his dream to start his own business. In 1987, he and his wife opened a small cafe in North Arlington called Cafe Parisien. For the next 20 years the Cafe would thrive and bring Ioannis pride and enjoyment, as well as many dear friends within the Arlington community that patronized it. The cafe was sold in 2007 because of Ioannis' declining health. He knew he wanted to enjoy his remaining years to the fullest. During his entire life, Ioannis brought joy to many people. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a caring and faithful friend. He was also a model of courage and dignity. Ioannis will be remembered and missed by many of us.
