Daniel Alan Gilbert 1947 ~ 2013

Daniel Alan Gilbert, 65, of Boise, Idaho passed peacefully on Friday, September 13, 2013 of complications of Amyloidosis after receiving a liver and heart transplant. He was at home surrounded by his family. Daniel was born November 3, 1947 in Twin Falls, ID and was raised in Lewiston, ID where he graduated from Lewiston High School. Daniel attended the University of Idaho receiving a Bachelor of Physics and a Master of Electrical Engineering. During his time in Moscow, Dan met his future wife of 42 years Barbara Bell of Kailua, Hawaii, whom he married on Friday August 13, 1971. They eventually settled in Boise, ID where they raised their two children Eric and Janet. Dan was employed for 28 years by Hewlett Packard and then went on to own his own businesses. Throughout his life he was an avid outdoorsman. He shared his love of the outdoors with many by being a scoutmaster for 14 years and continued to be active in the Ore-Ida council. He was a very active father in his own children's lives but was a father figure for many children in the community. He enjoyed coaching T-ball, basketball and Babe Ruth baseball. He did all of his community work together with his wife at his side. Dan has given back many of his 65 years to the community of Boise and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, Eric and daughter-in-law, Lisa Simpson (granddaughter to be born November); and daughter, Janet. Mother-in-law, Dorothy K. Bell, of Stockton, CA; Aunt Dorothy and Duane Kirk of Boise, ID; brother, Jerry Gilbert of Ridgefield, WA; sister and brother-in-law, Anita and Ed Jeffs of Kennewick, WA; niece, Erin Russell of Stanwood, WA. With deep appreciation extended to Stennett and Susi Bell, Bill and Barbara Bell and their families. Daniel is predeceased by brother, Tom Gilbert of Mesa, AZ; brother, Bill Gilbert of Kennewick, WA; mother and father, June and Clarence Gilbert of Lewiston, ID; and step father Alan Summers of Lewiston, ID.
